Riandra jumped at a loud crackling noise, waking her from her daydream.
Ice-blue eyes darting back and forth, Ria searched frantically for a moment to find the source of the disturbance. It turned out that it was nothing but the fire burning merrily. To Ria's sensitive ears, however, it sounded as though some sort of explosion had taken place.
There was a flash of light and a loud bang that rattled the window pane Ria was sitting next to. She jumped again, wincing a little because she had stepped on her tail and clipped one of her wings against a wall in the cramped space she was in.
Being half-dragon and half-human had many advantages, but it had its share of drawbacks too. Having a tail and wings were great for flying, but could be awkward on the ground. Her draconian head had far more acute senses than that of a human, but during a thunder-storm those sensitive ears could be bothersome.
